KBYU New Year’s Fund-Raiser
Thursday, Jan. 1, beginning at 9am
Find encouragement to accomplish your New Year’s resolutions during KBYU’s day of motivational programming. In Women & Money,Suze Orman talks about economic and emotional awareness to help women maximize their finances. Then Dr. Agatston discusses heart health and alternatives to invasive procedures in South Beach Heart Program. Next in Brain Fitness 2, Dr. Merzenich uses his brain exercise program to optimize vision and hearing. Finally Dr. Wayne Dyer offers advice to help individuals use their energy to create their lifestyle in The Power of Intention.
KBYU Classic Movies
This month watch five classic American films. Begin with The Greatest Story Ever Told,a rendition of the life of Jesus Christ starring Max Von Sydow as Christ and Charlton Heston as John the Baptist. Then Heston rebels against the Roman Empire in Ben-Hur; Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn fall in love in Pat and Mike; and Rosalind Russell teaches her nephew about life in Auntie Mame. End the month with North by Northwest, the Hitchcock thriller starring Cary Grant as an advertising executive framed for murder.
Classic TV Westerns
Friday, Jan. 9, beginning at 8pm
This month KBYU invites viewers to watch three classic TV westerns and vote for their favorite. First up, Bonanza is an action and family drama, set in the post-Civil War years, about Ben Cartwright and sons Adam, Hoss, and Joe who live on the Ponderosa ranch. Number two, Gunsmoke, centers on the exploits of Marshal Matt Dillon in the frontier town of Dodge City in 1873. The show premiered in 1955 and is the longest running dramatic series in the history of television, airing for 20 years. KBYU is dedicating one night this month to helping you prepare for the change to digital, which will take place in February 2009. Tune in at one of the times above, when we shut off the analog signal, leaving only the digital one. These six-minute tests give you the chance to find out if you still need to make any changes to your TV setup in preparation for the Feb. 17 digital transition. Overcoming Substance Abuse

Prescription medication overdoses kill more Utahns than automobile accidents and are one of the leading causes of death for Utah’s 25- to 54-year-olds. Agatha Christie’s Poirot

Tony Award-nominated David Suchet stars as Hurcule Poirot—a private detective with brains, great style, and zero modesty—in this popular British series based on Agatha Christie’s enormously successful novels and short stories. Although Poirot’s eccentric manner gets ridiculed by the local police force, the Belgian is always the first to solve the crime.

The Electric Company

This month KBYU begins a new season of an old favorite. The Sesame Workshop has revived its 1970s classic The Electric Company. The new show adapts to a more contemporary style with interactive online elements and community-based activities across the nation. The new show also holds true to its classic ideals—promoting literacy and helping kids ages 6-9 find joy in reading.
